Pyramids, Pyramids, Pyramids!

I got to take yet another great adventure this past weekend. I went to the historic Teotihuacan. It's an ancient civilization of the Aztecs and it's world famous for it's pyramids.

I decided to leave on Saturday with Daniel & Beverly, two of the teachers from HELP! and we stayed in a hostel in Puebla. The hostel was surprisingly very nice, unlike some of the other places I have stayed in Mexico.  We arrived to our hostel a littler after 2 PM and then we had the whole rest of the day to spend in the city. We decided to treat ourselves and go to a somewhat nice restaurant called VIP. After that Beverly and I went out shopping, which was a lot of fun since I haven't been able to shop in a long time and I've really wanted some new clothes.

The next morning we woke up bright and early and headed to the bus station. We met up with the other ILP teacher and headed to Teotihuacan. The trip took about 2 hours and we finally arrived. The bus took us to a little shop where people gave us a tour around the grounds and taught us about some cool stuff. They had a giant Aloe Vera plant there and they showed us all of the different ways the Aztecs used the plant. They discovered paper, a thread and needle, and even juice in this one plant! Our tour guide also showed us some of the beautiful stones that are abundant in the area.

hard to tell, but this plant is HUGE

If I had like $300 pesos I would have definitely bought this.

I got this stone for FREE!

After a quick tour of the area we then headed to the pyramids. These pyramids were HUGE! The biggest of them all was the pyramid of the Sun which is the 7th largest in the entire world..oh and did I mention I climbed to the top of it?!

welcome to Teotihuacan!

We had a great time at the pyramids and I definitely got a lot of sun that day. Afterwards the bus took us to get some food and then we made a quick stop to a former convent.

After our detour, we headed back on the bus and headed back to Puebla. Overall it was an amazing experience and I am so happy and fortunate to have been able to go there!

I love to see the temple!

My ward here in Tehuacan had a temple trip to a nearby temple in Oaxaca! The trip was about two hours long and we took a big charter bus together to get there. It was a great experience to get to go to the temple and worship there, especially since it was all in Spanish! I love the temple & I love the church! It's amazing how it's exactly the same everywhere you go.

After the temple the other teachers from ILP and I decided to explore Oaxaca, because it's a big city with a lot to offer.  We spent the night is a hostel which cost about $10 USD per night, and it was reasonably nice for being that cheap.

Unfortunately I forgot my camera in the hostel for most of the first night, but I did manage to get a few good snapshots. The next day we went to visit the Arbol de Tule, which is a ginormous tree. I heard that it takes 30 people to wrap their arms around it all the way. After that we went to church for just one hour. And then it was off to some amazing ruins!

best part about our hostel - DOGS! :)
